A new update allows the Polestar 2 to increase its charging power. But the sedan is not yet at Tesla’s level.
As more and more electric cars are on our roads, it is important for manufacturers to reduce the time required for recharging. The goal is indeed to reduce waiting times at chargers in the event of heavy traffic, but also allow users to waste as little time as possible at the terminal.
Many means are implemented, such as the development of solid-state batteries and the 800-volt architecture or even increasing the power of charging stations. But it is still necessary that the cars can cash it. For this, updates are regularly offered to electric vehicles, as is the case at Tesla but also at Polestar.
Increased charging power
Exactly, the Polestar 2 just got a little remote update, including several new features, including the highly anticipated Apple CarPlay integration. But that’s not all, since according to a Reddit user who owns a copy of the Swedish sedan, the load has also been impacted, in a good way.
Indeed, and as stated on the site Teslarati, the maximum charging power of the Tesla Model 3 rival has been revised upwards. This is in fact increased to 150 kW, compared to 120 kW so far. An increase which obviously has an impact on the charging time, sinceit now takes 25 minutes to go from 10 to 70%. Only 17 minutes are needed to charge the battery from 30% to 70%.
The Polestar 2, behind the Tesla Model 3
Good news, according to the graph posted on Reddit, the Polestar 2 can maintain this charging power for quite a long time, even if this duration varies according to the remaining autonomy at the time of connection to the terminal.
Nevertheless, if the power of the Polestar 2 evolves, it still remains well below the 250 kW of the Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie or even the 170 kW of the Model 3 Propulsion. Moreover, at its launch, the entry-level Model 3 was limited to 120 kW before being unbridled to 170 kW via a remote software update.
The Scandinavian firm should not let it go for long, since its Polestar 5 will be equipped with an 800-volt architecture. A technology already used by Porsche, Kia and Hyundai, which increases the power and speed of charging.
