Regularly under fire from critics in recent months, Elon Musk this time the subject of a complaint. An American citizen accuses the multi-billionaire of having taken advantage of his aura to influence the course of a cryptocurrency.
Elon Musk and dogecoin, a complex history
Tesla boss is making headlines again. Regularly quoted in the media, the whimsical billionaire is the subject of a complaint filed by Keith Johnson, presented as a “American citizen who was defrauded by a pyramid fraud set up by the defendants around dogecoin”, or this cryptocurrency regularly touted by Musk on his social networks, and which was even accepted as a means of payment at Tesla for a time. The case is very serious, the plaintiff is asking Elon Muskbut also to its companies Tesla and SpaceX the tidy sum of 258 billion dollars.
Considering himself aggrieved, the man who explains having generously invested in dogecoin, faced the sudden drop in the price of this cryptocurrency. Presented for a time by Elon Musk as “the people’s cryptocurrency”dogecoin fell from 74 cents in May 2021 to 5.8 cents at the time of writing.
The fall is recorded, and the pill does not pass for the plaintiff, who now judges this crypto as a pseudo-scam: “Musk used his status as the richest man in the world to exploit and manipulate the dogecoin pyramid scheme for profit, exposure and entertainment. »
There is no indication, however, that the complaint is successful. Not sure either that it worries the founder of the Tesla empire, on the way to becoming the first trillionaire in history.
