Los Angeles (AFP) – Already the richest man in the world, tech entrepreneur and leader of one of the most influential social networks, Elon Musk could also have inspired Netflix’s latest detective film, “Glass Onion: A Story of Knives Drawn”. .
The film, which takes the sequel to “A knife drawn” (2019), will be released in theaters on November 23 and will be available for streaming a month later.
Actor Daniel Craig puts on the costume of detective Benoit Blanc to investigate a murder committed on a private Greek island whose owner is Miles Bron: a billionaire, daring entrepreneur and self-proclaimed genius who made his fortune thanks to various companies.
The character played by Edward Norton delights in baffling those around him with his latest whims and riddles.
Since the film’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September, scholars have noted similarities between the character and Elon Musk, who founded SpaceX, runs Tesla and recently bought Twitter.
The American magazine Vanity Fair claimed that the film attacks the figures of “insane, and sometimes dangerous, messiahs of the technology industry”, in reference to the character of Miles Bron, a “mixture” between Elon Musk and Steve Jobs.
“If you see similarities, it’s surely not a coincidence” had fun saying Edward Norton Tuesday at a press conference in Los Angeles.
“But I also think the character of Miles is like that Carly Simon song that says ‘you’re so pretentious, you probably think this song is about you,’ and I think a lot of (tech billionaires) are going to think that it’s about them. And that’s fine,” he added.
Writer and director Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, revealed that the character wasn’t inspired by a single real-life figure because “making fun of a particular person is not so relevant”.
But he added that the film is about “our relationship, as a society”, to those billionaires who are wished ill and hoped they would invent something that would solve all our problems.
“Glass Onion” will be the first Netflix film to be released in a large number of theaters in the United States, but only for one week, an experiment of the platform which seeks to diversify its sources of income.
