Good news for those who like to have an aperitif with a crazy view while enjoying good food: the mythical terrace overlooking the Guillotière swimming pool is reopening its doors today.
If we had to make a ranking of the coolest terraces in Lyon, that of the Piscine du Rhône (oh sorry, we must say Center Nautique Tony Bertrand) would be enthroned in a good position. With its side suspended above the basins, its incredible view of the Rhône, the Presqu’île and Fourvière and its guinguette atmosphere, it has everything to please.
Yes, but lo and behold, this terrace and the accompanying restaurant have been closed for over 2 years now. It must be said that the place seems a bit cursed. After the failure of the two previous establishments (La Piscine and Pistache), Botani, a new concept, will try to break the curse. And we have the impression that it is on track to succeed!
The terrace this summer while waiting for the rest
Botani will mix cocktails, good food and… gardening! Although the interior part is still under construction, the team in charge of the project has decided to open the terrace now so that the people of Lyon can enjoy it this summer.
Cocktails and dishes to share
At noon, you can come for lunch with a nice menu offering 2 starters, 3 main courses and 2 desserts. In the kitchen, Alexis Lauriac who after passing through several renowned establishments (Têtedoie, Le Président, Le Tiroir in Lyon or the Clos des Sens in Annecy) will offer seasonal cuisine with a nice selection of products and a tendency to cook vegetables whole and to reuse tops and causses. For example, you can taste a knife-smoked eggplant tartare, raspberry, glasswort, hazelnut or even punzu-lacquered melt-in-the-mouth squid, puffed green lentils, zucchini purée (at this stage of the article, you must be starting to salivate) .
In the afternoon, stop by at snack time to bite into a good peanut brownie, pistachio and amaerna cake or even savory madeleines.
Finally, in the evening, Botani will offer ultra gourmet plates to share like a mozzarella burrata, tomato caramel, roasted almonds with curry and ciabatta or a sage-smoked cauliflower, candied in hazelnut butter.
The drinks menu is not to be outdone, with cocktails created specifically for the venue and an inspired selection of wines.
To manage the place and the service (service which was one of the big black spots of the previous establishments), we find Maël Rocca already in charge of the Solal in the 6th arrondissement, after having worked at the Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz and at the Georges V in Paris.
Price level, it will remain very reasonable. The lunch menu starter + main course + dessert is €21. Cocktails around €10 and wine by the glass around €5.
Well, you know everything! I imagine that, like us, this information has made you really want to go there and that you are waiting for the practical information at the end of the article to be able to book.
