Three men aged 22 to 33 were arrested while hunting the hedgehog, a protected species, in parks in Tarbes, we learned from the police on Thursday.

One of them even posted videos with recipes based on the little animal on Facebook.

The police, thanks to two reports from Internet users on the Pharos platform, were informed of the existence of a man from the Hautes-Pyrénées who filmed himself cooking hedgehogs.

The three poachers were arrested on Saturday and Sunday during a police check. A live hedgehog was found in their car.

Among them was the author of the reported cooking tutorials. During their detention, all assured that they did not know that this practice was banned in France.

They only received a simple reminder of the law, but the French Office of Biodiversity (OFB) could decide to take legal action against them.

The hedgehog is a protected species whose capture and hunting is prohibited in France. Violating them is an offense punishable by three years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros.

On 18 October, three other people were arrested in Tarbes while hunting hedgehogs with a hunting dog.
