The “laboratory for the protection of children online” launched by the President of the Republic on November 10, aims to protect minors exposed to online violence. In this context, Emmanuel Macron directly challenged Elon Musk.
Just days after becoming the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk must already answer questions from politicians around the world. Starting with Emmanuel Macron, who directly challenged the billionaire. Indeed, the President of the Republic launched this Thursday, November 10, a “laboratory for the protection of children online”.
This initiative brings together different platforms, NGOs and regulators, and aims to find solutions to protect minors from pornography, harassment and online violence. This “laboratory” was born from a meeting at the Elysée between members of the government, non-governmental organizations, and representatives of digital platforms like Meta, Google or Tik Tok.

Emmanuel Macron wanted to launch the movement by questioning the new owner of Twitter directly on the social network. “Will the bird protect our children?” tweeted the head of state this Friday, November 11, referring to Twitter. “Absolutely” replied Elon Musk, in French. “We will take action in this regard,” continued the latter.
It remains to be seen what these famous measures are, and whether they will fulfill the missions mentioned by Emmanuel Macron, such as “better verifying the age of users, better detecting and stopping sexual predators, better detecting and responding to harassment, being more effective in removing continuous ones”.
