Twitter owner Elon Musk fact-checks ‘Dune’ quote

New Twitter CEO and owner Elon Musk was verified by his own platform on Tuesday after falsely attributing a quote to the sci-fi epic ‘Dune’.

“Fanaticism is always a function of suppressed doubt,” Musk tweeted, attributing the saying to Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, which was recently turned into a blockbuster movie.

Users were quick to point out that the quote is actually from prolific Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung.

Fact-checking came in the form of Twitter’s new Community Notes feature, which aims to “create a better-informed world by enabling Twitter users to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading Tweets.”

Musk touted the newly launched feature earlier this month, saying it was a revamped version of Twitter’s pilot program, Birdwatch.

“Birdwatch (soon to be rebranded as Community Notes) has incredible potential to improve the accuracy of information on Twitter!” tweeted the billionaire.

The feature was used to flag other powerful people, including a tweet from the White House that wrongly credited President Biden for the increase in Social Security payments.

This is the same fact-checking feature that recently corrected a Tweet from the White House.

It’s one of many notable changes Twitter has made under Musk’s ownership.

The platform unblocked popular accounts, prepared to launch its new $7.99 “Twitter Blue” subscription option, and downsized.
