What is futures trading on the CAC 40?
Trading futures on the CAC 40 is defined by trading a futures contract on the CAC 40 future index (also called the FCE). It is one of the most negotiated contracts on the French market, in which two parties (a buyer and a seller) undertake to negotiate the future on the CAC 40 (CAC 40 Index Future, FCE) at a fixed price and on a specified future date.
L’CAC 40 future index (also called the FCE), which is one of the most traded contracts on the French market, is a futures contract in which two parties (a buyer and a seller) undertake to trade the future on the CAC 40 ( CAC 40 Index Future, FCE) at a fixed price and on a specified future date.
The CAC 40 index (Continuous Assisted Rating) differs from the CFE “. It is the main index of the Paris Stock Exchange and brings together the 40 largest French companies listed on the Paris Stock Exchange among the top 100 companies from different business sectors. These companies are sorted by market capitalization, trading activity, balance sheet size, and liquidity.
The CAC 40 represents almost 80% of the total volume of Euronext, the leading European market place. Since the CAC 40 index cannot be physically held (like a company share for example), the CAC 40 future index was created to allow traders to speculate on the variations of this economic indicator.
If the CAC 40 index futures contract is currently quoted at 6,300 for example, this is the level at which the CAC futures contract will trade when the contract expires.
